Riding Vista

Riding VISTA is easy when you know the basics. This section will provide you with general information regarding VISTA bus services.

Hours of Operation

Service hours vary by route, so it is important to check individual route information.

Monday through Friday - VISTA operates between 4:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. CSUCI routes operate until 11:00 p.m.

Saturday - VISTA operates between 6:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Conejo Connection service to Warner Center does not operate on Saturdays.

Sunday - Only VISTA 126, Coastal Express and the Santa Paula and Fillmore Dial-A-Rides provide service between 6:30 a.m. ans 6:00 p.m.

VISTA does NOT operate on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Riding Basics

  • Plan your trip in advance. Call (800) 438-1112 or check the routes and schedules to find your stop.
  • Arrive at your stop five to ten minutes early. Wait next to the bus stop sign where the driver can see you.
  • As the bus approaches, check the sign above the front window to make sure it’s the route and destination you want. If it is, signal the driver that you wish to board.
  • Before the bus arrives, make sure you are ready to board by having all carry-on items in your hands.
  • Be ready with exact change, transfer receipt or you’re your Go Ventura Card. (VISTA does not give change)
  • Stay back from the curb and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop. Then get on the bus and pay your fare.
  • Major stops will be announced. If you are not familiar with the area, ask the driver to call out your destination.
  • About a block before you want to get off, push the buzzer or pull the plastic strip to request the next stop.
  • Gather all personal items and exit through the front door.

Seating/Standing

Whenever possible, remain seated during the ride. When selecting a seat, please consider the accessibility of seating for seniors and persons with disabilities towards the front of the bus. If the bus is crowded, please move to the back if the bus. If you must stand, hold on to the handrails. Federal regulations prohibit the operation of any bus with passengers standing ahead of the yellow or white line.

Bike Racks

Fixed Route buses come equipped with a two-unit bike rack. It is your responsibility to unfold the bike rack, load and secure your bicycle and return the bike rack to the stowed position. If the rack is full, you will need to wait for the next bus. When you leave the bus, please exit from the front doors and inform the operator that you will be unloading a bicycle. Never step in front of a bus to load/unload a bicycle without alerting the driver and making sure the bus is completely stopped. Folded bikes that can be carried, and placed on your lap are accepted at the driver's discretion.

VISTA is not responsible for any theft or damage while a bike is mounted on a rack or at any VISTA facility. Unclaimed bikes will be kept at VISTA Lost & Found and held for no more than 30 days. Please call 1 800-438-112 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday if you leave your bike or other belongings behind

Rules of the Road

  • No smoking, eating, or drinking on the bus.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • No playing of audio devices without headphones.
  • No profanity or disruptive behavior.
  • No littering.
  • No hazardous materials, such as gasoline or car batteries.
  • Keep hands and arms inside the bus at all times.
  • Never cross in front of a bus.
  • Keep aisles clear; strollers must be folded.
  • Seating towards the front of the bus is reserved for seniors and persons with disabilities.

Title VI

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits the use of public funds in any manner that results in discrimination.  The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) require all public transportation operators to comply with Title VI regulations.  In April 2005, VCTC adopted its original Title VI Program, which ensures the level and quality of VISTA bus service is provided without regard to race, color, national origin, or income status.  VCTC’s February 2009 Title VI Report was updated to be consistent with the guidelines set forth in FTA Circular 4702.1A (dated May 13, 2007).
