What is the Ventura County Short Range Transit Plan?
The Ventura County Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP) is a short-range planning documented adopted by the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) that guides future services, operations, and capital investments in the County over the next ten years. The 2025-2034 SRTP incorporates socioeconomic data, community feedback, and local transit solutions while also placing an emphasis on inclusion of disadvantaged and underserved communities to create a more equitable transit future for all.
What is the purpose of the SRTP?
The Plan:
- Evaluates current transit services to understand how well the agency’s services are meeting community needs.
- Identifies improvements to routes, schedules, service levels, or technologies.
- Identifies future financial needs which include operating and capital costs, revenue, and funding strategies.
- Serve as a supporting document for grant funding opportunities
- Ensure transit supports local/regional plans, sustainability goals, and transportation equity.
- Enhances equitable access to transit service.
- Establishes a vision for transit service in Ventura County for the next ten (10) years
How will the SRTP be used to improve Ventura County?
The SRTP will:
- Provide a comprehensive look at transit across Ventura County
- Consider future land use and transportation conditions
- Identify local and -regional transit priorities
- Helps agencies prioritize resources
- Provide a transparent roadmap for public accountability
- Assist with competitive grant funding by demonstrating need and readiness of projects/activities
- Help Ventura County meet State and local mandates and goals
What role will the public and stakeholders play in the planning process?
The SRTP will be guided by input received from the community and project stakeholders. Digital and physical surveys will be made available in English and Spanish during the project to solicit input from the community. Additionally, members of the project team will be visiting community events to connect with community members and get feedback.
