Guaranteed Ride Home Program

Monetary savings are great. Environmental benefits are extremely important. Less traffic is a must.  However, one thing can keep people from trying alternative transportation to work – “What if there is an emergency and I don’t have my car?” With the Guaranteed Ride Home Program, you don’t have to worry about being stranded at work should unforeseen circumstances arise.

Who Qualifies

Anyone working or enrolled in a job training program in Ventura County who travels to work by bus, train, carpool or vanpool is eligible to participate in VCTC’s Guaranteed Ride Home program.

How to Register

You must be registered in the program for at least one week before you can claim a free ride home.  There are three ways to register:

  • Click here to complete a registration form online.
  • Obtain a registration form from your employer.
  • Call the VCTC Information Center at (805) 642-1591 x 119.

What the Guaranteed Ride Home Program Offers

Program participants are eligible to receive a free taxi ride or one-day car rental on a day they carpool, vanpool, ride the bus, or use Metrolink to travel to work.  VCTC’s Guaranteed Ride Home program can be used up to twice a month under the following conditions:

  • You become ill, have a child care emergency, or experience a severe crisis for yourself or a family member.
  • You have an unexpected request by a supervisor to work past your regular work-end time (“Unexpected” means not knowing about the request before arriving at work on the day in question).
  • You are stranded at work because your carpool or vanpool driver had to leave due to an emergency (In this instance, each impacted rider in the carpool or vanpool is eligible for a Guaranteed Ride Home).

You will be required to repay the full cost of any trip that is not eligible under Guaranteed Ride Home program guidelines.

The following situations are not covered by the Guaranteed Ride Home program:

  • Transportation to work.
  • Transportation for personal errands.
  • Pre-planned appointments.
  • Business-related travel.
  • Working late absent a supervisor’s request.
  • Non-emergency “side” trips.
