LEAVE YOUR CAR. LOVE YOUR COAST.
Coastal Express Goes Electric
New all-electric Coastal Express buses are now in operation on routes 80–89, delivering a cleaner, quieter ride between Ventura County and Santa Barbara. Producing zero tailpipe emissions, each bus helps protect our coastal air and marine life while replacing thousands of car trips every year.
Zero tailpipe emissions
Thousands of gallons of gas saved annually
Cleaner air for Ventura and Santa Barbara counties
See the new electric buses in action
VCTC and SBCAG are proud to provide clean, reliable, and beautiful transit options to our coastal communities. These electric buses represent a shared commitment to sustainability and local pride. The new zero-emission buses are provided through a grant from the California Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

Meet the Fish
Meet the Ocean Locals Riding with You
Wrapped in bright decals of local marine life, these buses are a moving symbol of community pride and our commitment to clean, sustainable travel. The new buses are made possible through a partnership between the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) and the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG).
Sheephead
Sheephead can grow up to three feet long and weigh over 36 pounds. Males are much bigger than females and have a black head and tail with a pink/red middle. The females are pink with a white underside.
Garibaldi
The garibaldi is a member of the damselfish family and is the California State marine fish. It is easily identified by its bright red orange color.
Señoritas
These little fish live in groups called “schools”. At night they bury themselves in the sand with only their heads exposed. These can be greenish bronze or orange.
Kelp Bass
These are also called calico bass and can grow up to 28 inches long and 14 pounds. They can be olive green to brown with white spots.
Purple Sea Urchin
Purple sea urchins have a round body that can grow up to 4 inches in diameter. They are covered with bright purple spines that serve as protection, help with movement, and trap floating algae for them to eat.
Bat Sea Star
Sea stars use hundreds of suction - cupped feet to move and capture food, which they eat with stomachs in the center of their bodies. They can grow up to 18 inches across, they can be found in orange, yellow, red, brown, or purple.
Just like these fish depend on clean water, we depend on clean air. Together, we can make a difference.
