About ADA

Passed in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal law providing equal opportunities in employment, public accommodations, public services, telecommunications, and transportation to persons with disabilities.  The purpose of ADA paratransit service (often referred to as a Dial-A-Ride service) is to provide equal transportation for persons unable to use regular fixed-route bus service due to a disability or other condition.

All buses in Ventura County are equipped with wheelchair lifts to enable persons with mobility impairments to use the regular fixed-route service.  Curb-to-curb or door-to-door service (depending upon the community) is also available for persons unable to use the fixed-route service who have been certified under the ADA.

You may be eligible under the established ADA criteria if you are unable to use the regular public bus service for one or more of the following reasons:

  • You are unable to board, ride, or disembark from an accessible transit vehicle; and/or

  • Your disability or condition prevents you from traveling to or from a bus stop.
